Hold Me Responsible For Maina's Reinstatement, Permanent Secretary Ministry Of Interior Tells Committee

Maina: Why ex-Pension Chairman has not been arrested – DSS DG, Daura

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, doused tension Thursday and and gave others soft landing when he took responsibility for the administrative lapses in the reinstatement of dismissed former Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina.

According to him, the reference letter made to inform the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HoS) that Maina resumed duty was a letter sent to the Federal Civil Service Commission.

Accountant-General of the Federation Mr Ahmed Idris, said Maina was last paid in February, 2013. In March 2013, he was removed from the payroll.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun, told the panel that the last time Abdulrasheed Maina received salary as a civil servant was in February, 2013.

This is contrary to claims made by Maina's counsel, Mohammed Katu.

He says the assets in possession of the anti-graft commission were seized in the process of investigations and were not shared by the EFCC as allegations said.

.

Speaking further, she said: "What the Ministry of Interior did was they acted on an advance copy sent to them by the Federal Civil Service Commission for information objective only".

"We have checked our records and we have no record or evidence from the two platforms that salary was paid to Maina since March 2013".

"I received a letter from the Office of the Head of Service referring to the reinstatement of Maina".

"For the permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, to claim that the directive to reinstate Maina came from my office is limited in facts", Mrs. Oyo-Ita said, reacting to the submission by Mr. Magaji.

Speaking at an investigative hearing by the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee, Babandede also revealed that Maina has three passports and dual citizenship of Nigeria and the United States of America.

Oyo-Ita said: "Throughout the period of these correspondences being sent from the AGF's office to the federal civil service commission, right from the first letter in January, the attorney-general never wrote to the office of head of service directly".

According to him, upon advice by his Line staff, one Kehinde Ogoni, that the reinstatement be considered based on evidence of court injunctions, he (Malami) insisted on sighting the relevant court document so he could be well informed to take further action of the request.

"The meeting took the decision to reinstate Maina and copy of that meeting's minute was sent to the office of the Head of Service for further necessary action". He said his reservations didn't allow him sign off on the final copy.

He said though DSS had representation in the Maina pension task team, the dissolution of the body by the Senate ended the DSS connection to its embattled former chairman.

The immigration chief also explained that, at some point, Maina's name was removed from the stop list.
