'S Durga' director moves court against IFFI, I and B ministry

S Durga reveals the society’s patriarchal mindset
His advocate, Manu Sebastian, told Mirror, "We have filed a writ petition today challenging the decision of the I&B Ministry for excluding our film from Indian Panorama". "Nude" director Ravi Jadhav was equally upset. The ministry has not responded to the allegations. "However, the important thing is that 19 other films have also been chosen whose filmmakers have worked extremely hard to tell some very relevant stories and we need to champion these films along with the films that have been so unfairly left out", he asserted. According to sources in the know, the ministry objected because the film that was supposed to be screened at IFFI was "Sexy Durga" and not "S Durga", the version cleared by the censor board.
Disapointed with this decision, Sasidharan has already sent an email to the ministry asking for the reasons behind the "arbitrary removal of the film" and demanding the screening of the movie selected by the jury. It was a big honour.
Jadhav, whose previous credits include critically acclaimed films such as "Natrang", "Balak Palak" and "Balgandharva", said it is hard for him to accept that a selected film has been dropped without any explanation. "I am really disappointed and shocked to hear that it has been dropped", he said. IFFI is a government film festival, Tikoo argued, adding that "only responsibility and accountability" were driving the committee that was managing the festival.
The national award-winning director also said that it is hard to accept that a selected film is removed from the festival without any explanation, "My film was chosen for this, you can't take away my right". To the world at large, India is still synonymous with Bollywood, which tends to overshadow many films on serious topics that smaller artistes make.
He put out another tweet, again tagging Irani, "If any of the Panorama Jury dares to disagree with the decision to drop two artistically bad films Nude & Sexy Durga from Panorama line up, their understanding of film art & craft is poor".
Both the directors suspect that their films have been dropped from the Panorama because of the I&B officialdom's squeamishness about the titles. On Tuesday afternoon, National Award-winning editor and a senior jury member, Apurva Asrani too resigned. The movies were to be screened as part of the film festival in Goa later this month.
