President Buhari Honoured With 2 Chieftaincy Titles in Igboland

Mr. Buhari, who is visiting the region for the first time since he became president, said the diversity of the country makes it unique in the committee of nations.

After touching down in Enugu, the president proceeded to Abakaliki township stadium in Ebonyi State for the commencement of the tour. I am a strong believer in the unity of Nigeria. "As the most populous country in Africa with over 300 ethnic groups, our diversity is nearly unique among the nations", he said. I thank you all.

"I will again assure the people of the southeast that we are investing in infrastructure projects that are of critical importance to the region: the Second Niger Bridge, the East-West Road, the Coastal Rail, power projects - these and more will benefit the region and unlock economic potential".

He also praised Governor Umahi for his developmental strides in the state.

At another event with South East traditional rulers led by Eze Eberechi Dick, the president was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Ochioha Ndigbo (Leader of Igbo people).

"I am delighted to be in Abakaliki today to interact with the good of Ebonyi State and again with the South East region as a whole". I want to express my gratitude to the people of Ebonyi State for their hospitality and warm reception since I arrived the state.

Former Governor of the state, Sam Egwu, commended the president for the recent decision to pay former Biafra Police officers pensions.

Stay here as I bring you more updates.

He also paid glowing tributes to the late former governor of the Old Eastern region, Dr Akanu Ibiam, whom he unveiled a statue erected in his honour in Abakaliki, by the state government.
