Four dead, ten injured in California school shooting

At least three people were killed in a shooting at a rural Northern California school Tuesday morning. A woman and another child were shot in a truck that was driving near the school and taken to the hospital, he added.

Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston said the shooter was facing charges of assaulting one of the feuding neighbors in January and that she had a restraining order against him.

Enloe Medical Center said it had four patients from the shooting - one adult and three children. The gunman was later killed by police.

Tiffany's husband, Brian Rodgers, said another witness reported seeing a white pickup drive through the school gate and start shooting.

"I know that we have (airlifted) a number of students", Johnston said. Johnston said that about 100 law enforcement personnel were spread out at "multiple scenes" in and around the school, and described local police as "spread thin". The building was evacuated and students moved to a safe location, police said. He declined to release the name of the shooter but said the gunfire began with a domestic violence incident that neighbors reported.

Johnston said that a greater tragedy was averted due to the quick thinking of school officials. He said the neighbour "has been shooting lots of bullets lately - hundreds of rounds". "I just feel like there maybe should have been more effort put into stopping things like this".

As of Tuesday afternoon, five people, none of them children, including the alleged shooter, was confirmed dead.

Gov. Jerry brown issued a statement on the shooting, saying: "Anne and I are saddened to hear about today's violence in Tehama County, which shockingly involved schoolchildren".
