Deputies respond to reported shooting near elementary school in Rancho Tehama

Three people are dead following a shooting at a school in rural Northern California, say authorities.

According to local media KCRA the shooter was killed by police. The shooter was killed after he also wounded children at the school, however, it was unclear if the shooting happened on school ground.

That evolved to multiple victims and multiple victims at the elementary school. Fox 5 reports there are more than 100 law enforcement officers at the school and up to five crime scene.

He heard there were people injured, but those were unconfirmed reports.


According to the sheriff's office, the incident began at a house and moved to Rancho Tehama School where several shots were fired sometime before 9 a.m.

Officials are telling residents in the Rancho Tehama area to stay inside their homes until they are able to secure the situation. Ann Bates, administrative assistant to the superintendent of Corning Union Elementary School District, confirmed injuries at the school, but said there were no deaths at this time.

"Our doors are locked", she said.
