Felipe Massa likened his emotional send-off at the Brazilian Grand Prix to one of his 11 career victories.

F1 introduced an aerodynamic regulation overhaul during the winter in a bid to promote better racing and improve the aesthetic appeal of the sport's machinery by creating wider, faster and more aggressively-looking cars.

His eight-year-old son, Felipinho, gave a heart-warming message to Massa on the team radio at the end of the race. I will support you wherever you go. The thrill I felt today was vast, just like a year ago.

Felipe Jr. said: "Daddy, I'm so proud of you".

Massa said: "It is a great sadness, not only for people who came and were there, but also for those who hear this and are Brazilian".

"It's so hard to explain my feelings today", he added.

Raikkonen started and finished third at Interlagos for Ferrari, recording his third-straight F1 podium finish for the first time since he raced for Lotus in 2013, but struggled to keep up with Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas ahead throughout the race. Unbelievable start, then managed to overtake a few cars after the Safety Car. I knew he had better pace than me.

"Unfortunately the cars this year in this kind of place they can be very hard to pass and it gets a bit boring unfortunately".

"After that, the most frustrating thing is I've been in Formula 1 for 10 years and every single year that has happened to somebody in the paddock".

It's not the first time Massa has had an emotional send off at Interlagos.

Last year's race in Brazil saw Massa, in what was originally supposed to be his final home race, crash out at the half-way point before bidding farewell in a tear-filled walk down the pit lane.

"I'll try to defend as much as I can even though tomorrow we expect a very sunny day and completely dry conditions, so it's not going to be easy to hold on to our position".

Massa's final race will be at the season finale in Abu Dhabi at the end of November.
