With Amazon now the owner of the Whole Foods healthy-eating grocery chain, it should come as no surprise that it'd start putting its products on the shelves next to desiccated fruit and quinoa parcels.
Amazon devices such as the Echo and Fire TV lines are already carried in more than 100 Whole Foods locations, and Amazon already has a number of pop-up stores in various malls and such across the US, so adding or migrating them to Whole Foods' locations isn't a huge shock. According to the report, Amazon's focus will be to reinvent consumers' shopping habits and soften the transition across the company's multiple platforms.
The Journal further reported that "analysts, investors and rivals are closely watching Amazon's efforts in rapid-delivery and physical retail, and in particular how it integrates Whole Foods". Kessel was also instrumental in the creation of Amazon Go, the cashier-less convenience store that is still in beta testing. He has recently added Prime Now and AmazonFresh to his responsibility.
The stores will also offer information about Amazon's Prime membership service and its Prime Video offering. Just last week it was reported that AmazonFresh would be eliminated in certain ZIP codes around the country.
