Harry Potter: Wizards Unite - Pokemon Go Dev Announces New Game

For instance, it seems likely that, like "Pokemon Go", you'll be asked to create an avatar. The augmented reality game instantly became popular across the globe after it was released. TechCrunch's report says the Harry Potter-themed game - just like Pokémon Go - will draw "significant influence" from Ingress, the augmented reality experience Niantic launched in 2012. Entertainment Division's new Portkey Games division to bring the game, titled "Harry Potter:Wizards Unite", to life.
Niantic Labs, responsible for mobile sensation Pokemon Go, is said to be working on a new AR title based around Britain's favourite boy wizard named Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. While Niantic's project sounds like an unrelated effort, it's now unclear how the company found itself working with the Time Warner-owned entertainment company.
The idea of Niantic working on another game while Pokemon GO is still plagued by bugs and missing features sounds a bit insane, but it's not surprising to see the company attempting to extend its hold on the market of mobile AR games. The only timeframe Niantic has given is a vague "2018".
The mechanics of Ingress would actually translate pretty well to the fictional Harry Potter universe, and seems nearly ready-made for a fantasy spell casting coat of paint to replace its science-fiction special forces veneer.
According to TechCrunch, the game will be co-developed by Warner Bros. Let's hope that it does.
