The North Korean Foreign Minister attended the regular session of the UN General Assembly in September, during which Trump threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea over its weapons programme, including the September 3 nuclear test.

"Thus far, the suspected North Korean actions are consistent with a desire to demonstrate a deterrent capability rather than a prelude to an unprovoked first-strike in cyberspace; however, North Korea linked actors are bold, have launched multiple cyber attacks created to demonstrate national strength and resolve, and have little concern for potential discovery and attribution of their operations", FireEye researchers said in a blog.

Officials feared the rogue nation would test another missile or nuclear bomb on Monday or Tuesday as North Korean citizens celebrated the 11th anniversary of the country's first nuclear test and the foundation of the ruling Worker's Party of Korea.

North Korea has launched two missiles over Japan and conducted its sixth and biggest nuclear test in recent weeks in defiance of U.N. sanctions as it races towards its goal of developing a nuclear-tipped missile capable of hitting the United States.

Last week Trump stepped up his attacks on the North saying that talking with it does not work and "only one thing will work".

Bishop and Australian Defense Minister Marise Payne are in South Korea to hold the third round of the so-called "two-plus-two" talks with their South Korean counterparts Friday.

Gen. John Hyten, head of U.S. Strategic Command, has stated that the EMP threat is real, but the military appears more focused on North Korea's ballistic missiles and nuclear warheads.

A South Korean lawmaker claims North Korean hackers stole joint U.S.

-South Korean war plans, including parts of Operational Plan 5015, which includes procedures for a decapitation strike on the North's leadership if a crisis breaks out or appears imminent. Some military experts believe that power supply problems make it hard for North Korea to turn on its air defense radars for 24 hours a day and also that the systems might struggle to effectively track advanced warplanes such as B-1Bs, which have low radar-cross sections. Japan's air force also joined the drill.

"In my discussion with Secretary (Rex) Tillerson and Foreign Minister Kang (Kyung-wha), the aim was to ensure a peaceful negotiated outcome to the current tensions", the Aussie foreign minister said after being asked about how likely it was the countries would use military options against North Korea.

This is the second time since Trump's fiery U.N. General Assembly speech that North Korea vocally accused the USA of declaring war on its country.

CNN reported that depending on the level of detail in the stolen plans, the hack could pose serious challenges for the US-South Korean alliance.
