Target Goes National With Google Voice-Activated Shopping
13 October 2017, 04:23 | Jodi Jackson
The Target team up comes just after a similar partnership with Walmart and Google.
After testing out Google's delivery service in New York City and California, the big-box retailer on Thursday said it's now expanded nationwide on the Google Express website and app and on the Google Home smart speaker via voice shopping.
With Google Express and your Google Assistant, shopping is easier no matter where you are or what device you're using.
Target, looking to keep pace with Wal-Mart Stores and Amazon.com, is expanding its pact with Google's shopping service to the entire USA and will soon add voice-activated smartphone purchases. "So we're excited to offer this service nationwide in time for the busy holiday season", said Mike McNamara, Target's chief information and digital officer.
"In the markets where we've offered Google Express, guests tell us they love the ease and convenience of shopping Target through Google". "What's even better is that Target and Google teams are working on the next chapter, building experiences that digitally replicate the joy of shopping a Target store to discover stylish and affordable products".
You now can't tie your Target account to Google Express, but Target says that will be an option in 2018.
Targetannounced today an expanded partnership with Google that, among other things, will now allow consumers to shop Target across the US via Google Express, including by voice.
The expectation is that consumers will largely use Google Express today to pick up their everyday essentials - like more La Croix, which happens to be the most-ordered item in San Francisco, or Goody hair bands - the most-ordered item in L.A. Shoppers will be able to get deliveries within two days since the items will be shipped to a nearby Target store for free provided the purchase meets the $35 order minimum. Google Express also has plans for offering 5% discount to users who shop with Target REDCard along with free shipping. Customers also will have the option to link their Target.com accounts to Google Express, enabling more personalized recommendations and rapid re-order capabilities.
