Summary: The BJP, only two wards behind the Shiv Sena in Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has narrowed the gap to just one seat by winning a by-election.

The Shiv Sena, that stood a distant second during the last elections, is fighting for relevance. Interestingly, AIMIM Asadduddin Owaisi's mother Zakia Begum has also lost elections this time. While the Congress was fighting to retain the seat, the Shiv Sena and BJP were trying to dethroning it.

He said the people of Nanded had "reposed full faith" in the developmental agenda of the Congress and deserved credit for its victory.
Both the Congress and the BJP had made it a battle of prestige to wrest control of the civic body in the historical town renowned for the Hazoor Sahib Gurudwara, one of the five holy Sikh Takhts and the resting place of Guru Gobind Singh. The voter turnout for the civic body polls stood at 60 per cent.
