Bandipora encounter Gunbattle between security forces and terrorists is underway in Hajin Handipora of Jammu and Kashmir

Bandipora (Jammu and Kashmir): Two security personnel were declared dead after an encounter with terrorists in the Hajin area of Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. He said the militants opened fire on the security forces, triggering a gun battle. "Two militants were killed in the encounter. unfortunately two air force commandos also died", a police officer told AFP.

"As the forces were closing in around 5 am, the hiding militants fired upon them, resulting in the injuries to three personnel of Garud Commando Force. They came in August", a defence official said.

According to the intelligence report, more than two dozen terrorists are reportedly active in Bandipora district alone among a total of more than 150 in the four districts of Kashmir. Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid said these militants were involved in a number of terror attacks in which security forces personnel and civilians were killed. They were arrested along with two HM militants. The terrorists have been identified as Abu Bakr and Nasrullah Mir.

Witnesses said that men, women and children took to roads and participated in the final rites of the slain local militant.


Two Garud squads, each consisting of one officer and 13 other ranks, have been deployed in Kashmir.

The Army said in a statement that "befitting" tributes were paid to the two IAF martyrs at a wreath-laying ceremony at Srinagar's Badami Bagh cantonment, home of the 15 (Chinar) Corps. The security forces have been giving a befitting reply and foiling all attempts to vitiate atmosphere in the state. The firing stopped and a search operation was launched thereafter. The operation is still underway, the report said.
