Since recovering from a fractured leg sustained during his loan spell with Bournemouth last season, Wilshere has impressed and starred during the Gunners 4-2 victory over BATE Borisov in the Europa League.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's game with Watford, Wenger said: "He [Wilshere] doesn't necessarily have to leave Arsenal to go to the World Cup". He didn't want me to play as a left winger.

The Frenchman told reporters: "I believe Jack is in the best form for a long time".

"He is very close now to being considered, like anyone else".

He has not played for England since Euro 2016 and is understood to be desperate for more game time as he looks to win a place in the Three Lions squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation.

The 25-year-old made a full recovery from a broken leg prior to the global break, playing the full 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup win over Doncaster Rovers and in the Europa League success at BATE Borisov. If keeps going like he is going at the moment, he will go to the World Cup, I am sure.

Gareth Southgate appears to be one of them.

The midfielder is fully fit and pushing for Premier League action at the Emirates.

Wilshere's main issue is fitness.

Wilshere has 34 England caps to his name, but has not played for the Three Lions since the European Championship last year and has not been part of a squad since November last year. It is nearly a year since he was named in an global squad. He can open spaces, he can play in tight areas and he can get out of tight areas as well'.

Southgate is hardly blessed with midfield options at the moment and Wilshere is still under consideration for a place in the 23-man party that will travel to Russian Federation.
