Trump knows well what it feels like to be at the center of a sexual harassment scandal.

President Donald Trump addressed the allegations of sexual harassment made against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, ironically on the one year anniversary of the release of the infamous Access Hollywood tape of Trump making lewd comments with host Billy Bush that surfaced during last year's election. "They told me lies".

The New York Times on Thursday published a bombshell story saying that Weinstein paid eight different woman financial settlements following claims of alleged sexual harassment.

News of the leave of absence follows reports that Anita Dunn, a key aide to former President Barack Obama, "counseled" the Tinseltown titan following the report from The Times.

Danielle Rhoades Ha, a Times spokesperson, said Weinstein had been given two days to respond and that his full statement had been published.

Asked about the tape on Saturday, Trump dismissed it "locker room talk", as he has done in the past.

"I have resigned as an advisor to Harvey Weinstein", she tweeted.

Democrats have come under attack for their connections to Weinstein, and the Los Angeles Times reported Friday that several senators are giving away money donated to them by Weinstein as they seek to distance themselves from the scandal.

"The Times editors were so fearful they were going to be scooped by New York Magazine and they would lose the story, that they went ahead and posted the story filled with reckless reporting, and without checking all they had with me and my team", Weinstein continued. Weinstein has since taken a leave of absence from the company.

Weinstein has not yet commented on her resignation. She added that she was happy women have come forward with their allegations.

Bloom announced earlier Saturday that she was stepping down from her role as Weinstein's adviser.

This comes after widespread criticism of Bloom on social media and by her own mother, who said in a statement, "Had I been asked by Mr. Weinstein to represent him, I would have declined, because I do not represent individuals accused of sex harassment".

While Weinstein expressed contrition for his past behaviour - saying that he realises "the way I've behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologise for it" - his lawyer, Charles Harder, has said Weinstein is planning on suing The New York Times over the report.
