The studio had a movie called enormous which was an adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk set for a release in 2020, but for now it seems that Disney has shelved the project and stopped all active development on it.
Now that very big is no longer being developed, Disney will be moving on to a different project to fill the 2020 release window that was previously occupied by enormous. Director Nathan Greno, who co-helmed Tangled, will hopefully be working on something else shortly.
Ed Catmull, acting president of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, issued a statement addressing the decision to drop the project, explaining that the movie "just isn't working".
Disney's upcoming animated feature huge has been cancelled.
Enormous was first announced in at D23 Expo 2015 and was scheduled to be released in 2020.
Oscar-winning songwriter duo Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez were also contributing to the animated feature following their work on Frozen.
Set in Spain during the the Age of Exploration, the story was to center on "Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within clouds and befriends a 60-foot female giant". We have arrived at this point with the enormous and, although this is a hard decision, we put an end to its development for the moment. "We are focusing our energies on another project that has been in the works, which we'll be sharing more about soon, now set for Thanksgiving 2020". The animated comedy wound up grossing $330 million worldwide, the lowest total for a Pixar title. Next up, Disney Animation has Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, which is slated to hit theaters on November 21, 2018, and Frozen 2 set for November 27, 2019.
