Anupam Kher new Chairman of FTII

Anupam Kher Gajendra Chauhan Anupam Kher appointed as new FTII Chairman FTII Film and Television Institute of India Veteran actor Anupam Kher FTII protest

The strike definitely raised an alarm in the film industry, and several National Award winners went on an award-returning spree, and numerous FTII alumni, part of Bollywood, also raised their opinion on having a person from the film industry as the Chairman, who would understand the dynamics of this creative field in a better manner. The students had even held a 139-day strike to oppose the appointment and protests of "Gajendra Chauhan go back" had become a common sight.

The student body of FTII, which spearheaded the protest, argued that Chauhan's credentials were nowhere at par with its former heads such as Adoor Gopalakrishnan, UR Ananthamurthy, Girish Karnad and Shyam Benegal, who have contributed immensely to Indian theatre, cinema and literature.

Chauhan's stint was one of the most contentious in FTII's history. "And soon things were under control as the student realised my good intention", says Chauhan, adding that his work was acknowledged in the latest CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General of India) report that said the best work has been done under his chairmanship at FTII.

Apart from films, Kher has appeared in a number of plays, and television shows.

Anupam Kher is husband to the lovely and ever entertaining, Kirron Kher whom he married in the year 1985. His wife Kirron Kher is an actor and a BJP MP. I think we will work very hard. The 62-year-old self professed admirer of the Prime Minister also has to his credit over 500 films. He has also been part of acclaimed worldwide films such as the 2002 Golden Globe nominated Bend It Like Beckham, Ang Lee's Lust, Caution, and the 2013 Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook.

Visibly unhappy with some people wrongly reporting that Chauhan has been replaced by Kher, he also took to twitter and wrote, "I hv not been axed".
