Following the tradition of ancient armor brought to life, Destiny 2's Iron Banner appears to be homaging the samurai and Feudal Japan.

It will be interesting to see how different, if at all, Distant Shore is from Shores of Time, as Destiny 1's maps were built for six-vs-six gameplay, and Destiny 2's Crucible has been built from the ground up for four-vs-four.

The long-awaited Iron Banner is finally arriving in Destiny 2 today and with it comes a new multiplayer map for Guardians to fight it out on. It will run for one week, and unlike the original version, Iron Banner in Destiny 2 works differently. After speaking to Lord Saladin, you'll unlock an Iron Banner quest, which provides access to the Iron Banner playlist.

For Iron Banner, you don't actually have to win to earn rewards (though it will slow down your progress if you don't win). At this point, you'll be free to enter the Iron Banner through the Crucible Quickplay menu, with full matchmaking enabled.

Loot in the Iron Banner is gained through the use of the tokens, which can be gained by successfully completing and winning matches.

Don't forget to visit the social space and pick up any quests or quest items you may need for the week, such as Cayde-6's treasure maps, which place chests on Nessus this week.

When Does the Destiny 2 Iron Banner Event Begin? The main difference is that this mode isn't as strict with the rewards. The event starts on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 5 a.m. EDT and ends on Oct. 17, at 5 a.m. EDT as well.

Thankfully though, the lacklustre Iron Banner will still go live today. This means that the Destiny 2 Iron Banner event won't be a constant thing in the game, unlike the Nightfall Strikes, the Raid, and other event. For players looking to play the same games just with Iron Banner engrams for rewards instead, just look for Lord Saladin at the Tower.
