Berrien Health Department Offering Flu Shot Clinics

The flu, or influenza, is a contagious respiratory illness with symptoms such as a fever, body aches and sore throat. These usually last from a few days to less than two weeks. One can still get the flu after being vaccinated, but it all depends on different circumstances such as age, health and the way the vaccine is made being similar to the virus that is circulating.

Thousands of Americans may get the flu this year.

Luckily, you can protect yourself and your family from the flu, while doing a bit of community service at the same time.

However, people with diabetes are more likely to develop serious flu-related health problems if they get the virus, the AADE cautioned.

Couqille/Myrtle Point area residents may receive shots 8 a.m. -1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Coos County Courthouse in room 121, 250 N Baxter in Coquille.

To find the nearest flu vaccination location, check out the HealthMap Vaccine Finder. Other flu remedies include getting lots of rest, following a healthy diet and taking Tylenol or Advil, he said. No one will be turned away if they can't pay.

This year's event will be held from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. (Oct. 14) at the Carson Senior Center, located at 911 Beverly Drive in Carson City. Health officials say the risk is worth the reward, not just for you, but for those who can't help themselves. By simply knowing where to go, anyone can get a head start on combating the flu and know where to turn for a wide variety of other healthcare needs. Use soap and water or hand sanitizer to keep your hands clean.

Wash your hands - Handwashing prevents the spread of flu and other germs, like the common cold.

If you become ill, stay home to avoid making others sick.

The next flu shot clinic is 5:30 p.m.to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Southpointe Clinic in Fargo. The clinic also accepts many forms of insurance.
