Paul Ryan says likely vote on 'bump stock' after Las Vegas shooting

Paul Ryan ditches controversial bill to ease silencer restrictions in wake of Las Vegas saying 'it's not scheduled'

Asked about guns, Paul Ryan talks about the need for corporate tax cuts

She said "there's a time and place for a political debate" but in the wake of deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history was not it.

"There's no doubt this incident will spark a fierce debate about gun laws in America", said Alexander P. Roubian, president of the New Jersey Second Amendment Society, a pro-gun rights group.

At the regularly-scheduled Republican leadership press conference Tuesday, Ryan was also asked by a reporter what Congress has done to keep Americans safe from these continued mass shootings.

The Sportsman's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act (SHARE Act) was introduced last month, which would allow gun owners to transport registered firearms across state lines, carry guns in national parks and eliminate the $200 transfer tax on silencers, local media reports said.

The civil rights icon said Republicans are essentially condoning the nation's gun-violence pandemic by dismissing bills created to keep firearms from the hands of violent people. Ryan said the actions of the gunman who killed at least 59 people and wounded hundreds more will not "define us as a country". In other words, a mass shooting delayed a Republican gun bill, which made a comeback, only to be delayed by another mass shooting. "Right now we're focused on passing our budget". He then went on to talk about the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act, which a year ago passed the House 422-2 and was signed into law by President Barack Obama. He also had two bump stocks, which are commonly used to convert semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic ones. As a result many go untreated, and some commit crimes (albeit not usually as violent or awful as the Mandalay Bay shooting) and end up in prisons ill-equipped to handle severe mental illnesses.

"We were told in caucus today that the response was, if it has to do with policy, it was a nonstarter", said Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., chairman of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi on Monday asked Ryan to create a select committee on gun violence to recommend legislation. So why are Democrats like Hillary Clinton laser-focused on them?

After last year's nightclub shooting in Orlando, Democrats occupied the House floor for more than 24 hours to draw attention to efforts to expand federal background checks for gun buyers. Tim Murphy's (R-PA) and Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), which codified Medicaid coverage for inpatient mental health coverage, mental health education programs and grants.

"One of the things we've learned from these shootings is that often, underneath this, there is a diagnosis of mental illness", Ryan said.

When a vote is scheduled, we'll be sure to cover it.

"Mr. and Mrs. America, you have to stand up, you have to say 'enough is enough, '" Feinstein said. A year after Newtown, the Boston Globe examined state laws and reported, "Today, it is easier, not harder, to carry a gun in many parts of the nation than it was before the Newtown massacre last December 14". "But it is not an excuse for Democrats to try and strip away Second Amendment rights from law-abiding citizens".
