"I want to dedicate this song to Colin Kaepernick tonight", Jay-Z said of "The Story of O.J.", a song about blackness and managing money that also refers to O.J. Simpson. I want to dedicate this song to Dick Gregory.
In an appearance on CBS This Morning (h/t NESN's Zack Cox), Brady said the following regarding Kaepernick and how he feels about the former San Francisco 49ers signal-caller: "I've always watched him and admired him, the way that he's played he was a great young quarterback".
"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color", Kaepernick told reporters past year when asked why he was protesting the anthem. "There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder".
Jay-Z's performance, though full of energy and excitement, had some other serious tones. In June he wrote a guest column for the Hollywood reporter to push for projects that demand social justice. However, he didn't have to get political to cut to the genuine reality of the Kaepernick issue. "I hope he gets a shot".
Brady made an appearance on the Sunday morning news on CBS and was asked about the prospects of Kaepernick playing in the National Football League again, prompting a somewhat unexpected response. He has donated $100,000 per month to various charities, as part of a $1 million pledge he made in 2016.
