Four races free-to-air in new French F1 deal // French Grand Prix brings about TV changes

Formula 1 Racing Odds: Singapore Grand Prix 9/14/17

Formula 1 confirmed the deal on Friday (Sep 15), which comes after positive discussions between Formula 1 and Singapore Grand Prix organisers this month.

After announcing a new four year deal for Singapore, F1 CEO and chairman Carey reiterated that Asia is a "tremendously" important region for the sport and India figures in their scheme of things for the future, if not now, with the calendar already packed till next year.

The motorsport series came under new ownership this year when the US sports and entertainment firm Liberty Media bought out investment fund CVC Capital Partners, and Carey ended Bernie Ecclestone's reign lasting almost 40 years.

"India is a country that certainly has great potential and as we go forward, we will continue to study". France has enshrined in law that big sporting events must be free-to-air, so the French Grand Prix fits into that category. He finished sixth in this race a year ago.

The announcement, prolonging the distinctive night race which has been dubbed F1's "crown jewel" and the "Monaco of the East", comes after neighbouring Malaysia made a decision to cancel its grand prix, citing rising costs.

Nico Rosberg took 1hr 55m 49s to take victory last season, and with there being a two-hour time limit on Formula 1 races and rain very possible on race day, this year's race could easily become a race of two hours rather than 61 laps. "It is truly a unique opportunity for us to reach out to new fans around the world", said Carey. But Asian in general is tremendously important.

"We think agreements should always reflect ongoing fair value between two parties and we're happy to have to build this sport if we want to receive increased value over time, to make sure we're delivering better and better events".
