Coutinho returns but Liverpool frustrated by Burnley

17 September 2017, 09:51 | Charlene Valdez

Liverpool fan Frank tore into manager Jurgen Klopp after his side 1-1 draw at home to Burnley.

Philippe Coutinho, making his first start of the season, was not at his sparkling best as a Liverpool side showing seven changes from their midweek Champions League XI failed to fire.

Scott Arfield put the Clarets ahead after 27 minutes with a neat finish, before Livepool then levelled matters through Mohamed Salah just three minutes later.

Burnley took the lead after another defensive mix-up at the back, as Robbie Brady's header found Arfield, who half-volleyed the ball beyond the outstretched arms of Simon Mignolet. I know the boys are ready to work but we also need to be ready not to get frustrated if different situations don't come through, and not lose confidence because this or that doesn't work.

30' - GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 Burnley: An immediate equaliser from the Reds as Salah scores a fine individual effort!

"I'm really pleased with the game plan, because it's hard to come here", Dyche told reporters after the game.

"We made seven changes but it was still really fluent, it looked like proper football - offensive football, dominant football, possession football how it should be".

"I don't think anyone would have given us a chance of getting five points [at Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool] but the important thing is we do".

"Today, we looked good looking forward, and guess what?"

Liverpool dropped two crucial points against a high-flying Burnley side with the game at Anfield ending at one goal apiece.

However, due to some casual defending, the Reds ended up conceding the first goal. "How I've said, he has trained outstanding in the few sessions we've had so far together since he was back", added Klopp.

"We have quality and now we have to use this quality consistently, that should be the plan", said Klopp.

DF Joel Matip, 6 - Made a vital clearance off the line late on but should have done better for Burnley's goal.

"We are a lot more established in this league and we definitely feel part of it now". After seeing Salah denied a penalty from a hefty Ben Mee challenge, he played on and crossed for substitute Dominic Solanke, who hit the crossbar while attempting to open his Liverpool account.
