49ers matchups to watch in Week 2 versus Seahawks

Running backs Thomas Rawls still coming off of injury and Eddie Lacy are on the field during warmups before the Seahawks take on the Green Bay Packers Sunday

Carroll didn't know then, nearly no one did, that Lynch was about to become the new, first-time general manager of the San Francisco 49ers - the Seahawks' opponent Sunday in their 2017 home opener. "He practiced the whole practice today", Carroll said. He was in the booth for Seattle's last game prior to last weekend's 2017 season opener, for Seattle's divisional-playoff loss at Atlanta on January 14.

The Seattle Seahawks did not look strong at all in their first action of the 2017 regular season against the Green Bay Packers, but at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to Week 2.

But judging by his history and coach Pete Carroll's comments, Sherman is probably more accurately considered as not a question mark at all to keep alive his consecutive games played streak, which stands at 97, with 91 straight starts. Foster was a unanimous All-American selection a year ago at the University of Alabama and the 2016 Butkus Award victor as the best collegiate linebacker, and the 49ers were thrilled to get him in the 2017 NFL Draft. But the Seahawks say they know Shanahan's offense can create big plays if they allow themselves to get confused by any of the array of motions and formations the 49ers are sure to throw at them. Rawls is still listed as the starter on Seattle's depth chart. It's possible that LB Michael Wilhoite, a former 49er who is recovering from a calf injury that kept him sidelined in Green Bay, could start in Garvin's place.

Still, if the Seahawks can't get the running game going at home against the 49ers with projected starting tailback Thomas Rawls back in the fold, it will be fair to ask when they will get it going. He was always very interested in why and what to expect in all of that and sure enough now we're competing against the guys.

LANE NOT FINED FOR EJECTION: As the fines from last weekend's National Football League games began to be revealed Friday, one name was missing - Seattle cornerback Jeremy Lane. And yet the Seahawks had chances to win the game.

These two teams have a history of playing tight, physical games and the last meeting was decided by just two points. So I was convinced that we were going to go out and have a real solid game.

Told Friday that he hadn't been fined, Lane smiled and said he'd have to call his agent to tell him.

Richard wasn't entertaining the thought that Sherman may not be able to play.

"I learned a lot", Carroll said Wednesday."Yeah". Carroll said Sherman has reminded him of that this week. "It's never happened here", Richard said.
