Premier League awards for August: Liverpool star Saido Mane & Huddersfield boss David Wagner scoop monthly

David Wagner ready for return of the Premier League following the international break

David Wagner believes Huddersfield were too nervous and looked like a team which has just been promoted as they lost to West Ham.

Town picked up seven points from the Club's opening three games of the season, which started with an impressive 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, sealing the Terriers' first ever Premier League win.

Pedro Obiang's deflected shot from distance was impossible for Jonas Lossl to save, as the Hammers took their first lead of the season in the 72nd minute. The manager stressed at half-time that we weren't fearless enough with the ball and that showed.

"I'm disappointed because this was a defeat where we played a big part in it", said Wagner, adding that his side "were not courageous enough and confident enough". "We were second best in everywhere and weren't good enough with the ball".

"We have to be more courageous and more comfortable on the ball".

In fairness, Kouyate was making his first start on the season against Huddersfield, although he will need to improve on his technique and efficiency in front of goal if he wants to retain his place in the Irons' next fixture against West Brom. "We made so many unforced errors today".

"It's always the key to show the right response after a defeat but at the end I think what we have to learn is it makes no sense to play football without being confident on the ball".

"We will dust ourselves down and look forward to the game against Leicester on Saturday".
