Seoul foreign ministry spokesman Cho Joon-hyuk said Thursday North Korea's defiance would ultimately work against the regime, South Korean news service News 1 reported. "If Kim Jong Un said he would hit Anchorage, would he say, go ahead hit Anchorage and see what happens?", Underwood said.

Tillerson also said handling North Korea requires a "combined" message, and the president has "made it clear" he prefers a "diplomatic solution".

Meanwhile, China has reiterated calls for all sides to maintain calm and reduce tensions over the Korean Peninsula. On Tuesday, he said North Korea will be met with "fire and fury like the world has never seen," and then Friday morning, he tweeted that the military solutions are "locked and loaded".

Moscow said the exchange of threats between Washington and Pyongyang "worry us very much".

When speaking at his golf estate in Bedminster, N.J., Trump warned that the country will "truly regret it" if it overtly threatens the USA again.

The release came just days after North Korea's army said in a statement that it was reviewing a plan to attack the USA territory. North Korea has always viewed the training as preparation for war.
