Trump's unjustified boast about USA nuke power

Trump says US nuclear arsenal stronger than ever

We are the most powerful nation in the world | Trump brags about America's nuclear power

The tweet is earning attention in light of Trump's own poor poll numbers during the ongoing dispute with North Korea. There have been no significant changes in America's nuclear power as a result.

Rhodes later tweeted more criticism of the handling of the standoff after Trump's deputy assistant Sebastian Gorka compared the situation to the Cuban Missile Crisis and said the nation must rally around the president.

The now deceased lawyer, who advised both the United States and Iranian governments during the 1981 hostage crisis, wrote of the nuclear codes: "My suggestion was quite simple: Put that needed code number in a little capsule, and then implant that capsule right next to the heart of a volunteer".

While the US has daunting nuclear power, the Pentagon's program has been beset with morale, training, discipline and resource problems.

However, Trump asked for the Nuclear Posture Review in a January 27 Presidential Memorandum, and not in an executive order, as Walters incorrectly stated.

Today, the United States has a total of roughly 4,480 nuclear weapons, according to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists' "Nuclear Notebook", of which roughly 1,740 are deployed.

In addition, the US military is limited in how many weapons can be deployed under the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty signed in 2010. Yet somehow he's reached down into the highly technical, extremely expensive and rather thankless task of updating the USA nuclear arsenal and achieved measurable success in less time than it has taken to appoint a White House science adviser? The weapons themselves are less powerful: the Titan missile, for example, carried a 9 megaton warhead, several orders of magnitude more destructive than the ones fielded now. In fact, the arsenal has significantly shrunk since the height of the Cold War.

Guam governor Eddie Calvo dismissed the threat and said the island was prepared for "any eventuality" with strategically placed defences.

The official added, "He won't even want to listen to the arguments or have a debate".

In addition to the review of the nuclear force, the White House has also proposed a $1.4-billion budget increase for the National Nuclear Security Administration, which oversees the nuclear weapons enterprise.

On Monday, two US B-1 bombers flew from Guam over the Korean peninsula as part of its "continuous bomber presence", a USA official said, in a sign of the island's strategic importance.

"My first order as President was to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal", the president wrote shortly before 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
