Trump added that Washington is considering several options to intervene in Venezuela, one of them being military action should its need arise.

He described the South American nation as a "neighbor" that would be easy to strike militarily.

In a odd turn of events, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Thursday that he wants a meeting with President Donald Trump. "Instead Maduro has chosen the path of dictatorship".

Trump's statement "aims to drag Latin America and the Caribbean into a conflict that would permanently alter stability, peace and security in our region", Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said, reading a statement from President Nicolas Maduro.

Gen. Vladimir Padrino says, "With this extremist elite that's in charge in the US, who knows what will happen to the world?"

Elias Jaua, head of the Presidential Commission for the National Constituent Assembly, said that the ANC did not need the recognition of "any government".

Trump's statement on possible military intervention came after he had repeatedly threatened North Korea if it threatens the us, its territories or its allies.

Meanwhile, the president did not directly answer a question about whether the United States troops would lead the potential operation. -Latin American relations and tour the newly-expanded Panama canal.

He formerly accused Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of being a "dictator", for holding national elections to select the members of a Constituent Assembly, with power to rewrite the national constitution.

"Mr. Donald Trump, here is my hand", the socialist president said, adding that he wants as strong a relationship with the U.S.as he has with Russian Federation.

Trump declined to give more details about the possibility of US forces leading an operation in Venezuela.

McMaster said in an interview that aired on MSNBC, "You've seen Maduro have some lame attempts to try to do that already".

"Venezuela is our neighbour".

The general said: "It's important for us to place responsibility for this catastrophe on Maduro's shoulders".

When a paranoid loon like Nicolas Maduro tells his people for years that the U.S.is readying an invasion and then the USA president pulls a "military option" out of the blue, Trump makes Maduro look like a soothsayer.

"But a military operation, a military option is certainly something that we could pursue", he said. Not only is the only conceivable military intervention in this case total invasion to take over the government, which would be costly and pointless, but this type of rhetoric helps Maduro and bolsters years of anti-American chavista rhetoric.
