Rahul Gandhi dubs demonetisation as 'root cause of poverty' in India

In the last three years, the Opposition have been jumping from one issue to the other to corner PM Narendra Modi-led NDA - from intolerance to demonetisaion to student protests to attacks on Dalit to cow vigilantism to farmers' issue to Presidential election 2017 and more.

"Wherever there is Congress party government, you will see them standing with farmers, because we understand that farmers make India strong".

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee held a rally felicitating Rahul Gandhi for the amendment introduced to Article 371 (J) providing special status for Hyderabad Karnataka region, during the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre.

"Summary: A meeting of state-level senior leaders of both the parties was called at Vidhan Bhavan, but senior NCP leaders gave it a miss", said the Congress leader.

The party, which returned to power in May 2013 after a decade in the opposition, will contest the assembly election on the basis of its performance over the last four years, including various welfare schemes for the people across the state, he said. The Congress, however, said NCP supremo Sharad Pawar had communicated his inability to attend due to ill health.

He noted that Finance minister Arun Jaitley had said in Parliament that loan waiver was not the government's policy and a BJP leader had said they did not want to make farmers lazy by doing it.

Kailash Vijayvargiya said, "I would not like to comment much on this situation as it is their problem".

"When you (NDA government) waive loans of the country's 10 richest Industrialists, they don't become lazy, but when you waive farmers' loans, they become lazy".

However, PTI quoted the NCP leader Praful Patel saying that "even after we issued a whip to our MLAs (in Gujarat) and they voted for the Congress, why should we be accused of not supporting it?" Why didn't they think about the farmers that time? "Pawar told me he has been unwell... he would have attended", Azad said. Who has got employment here because of make in India?

However, one party that was missing from the meet was NCP.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi also expressed his pain and blamed the state's BJP government was responsible for the tragedy. "We have built roads and helped people with employment in the state".
