"Sanchez will not be available", said the Arsenal manager. "He is focused. Of course when you have treatment on a medical bench, it's not easy".

Arsenal is set to receive an £80 million (about $104 million) bid from Paris Saint-Germain for Alexis Sanchez, according to reports.

It would therefore appear that one more season with Arsenal and a free transfer next summer to the club of his choosing is now the most likely outcome for Sanchez.

However, his absence from the Community Shield, coupled with Wenger's revelation that he will miss the game against Leicester, and possibly Stoke, has further fuelled rumours over his future.

Wenger is keen for his team to make a strong start and banish memories of last season, when they lost their opening game 4-3 to Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

"It is a relief and I believe as well a reminder to the players that they have hurdles on the way and that we can get round it, like tonight so that is quite positive".

'When you are not completely in or the players feel you are not completely in, it is hard to tell them we go [out to win].

Wenger added he had a lot of players whose fitness he wasn't sure about going into the match.

Wenger also dismissed Chelsea's reported interest in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, saying he is still firmly in his first-team plans.

"He's very conscious of his qualities, he was not always".

Aside from Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Per Mertesacker and Shkodran Mustafi are all doubts while Gabriel Paulista and Santi Cazorla are longer-term absentees.

"I have players coming back who have not played, like [Shkodran] Mustafi".

He has only gone from strength-to-strength playing for the Gunners and was particularly impressive in the last season wherein he established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.
