Guardiola: City Spending Cannot Be Sustained

Manchester City face newly-promoted Brighton in their opening game of the season

Manchester City are most people's favourites for the Premier League title, but their first season under Pep Guardiola was a curious affair.

"I didn't like the first 25 minutes of the second half".

"We had one of the oldest teams in the Premier League so we chose to put energy in the team for the next five, six years", Guardiola said during his pre-match conference on Friday.

"It's not like we're going into the unknown but it will be a tough challenge this season".

"Last season, in City's 4-2 defeat at Leicester, everyone was wondering what he was doing, playing up on the halfway line against Jamie Vardy - Guardiola is supposed to be the best manager in the world". There's a gulf between Albion and City.

Nevertheless, in recent times, the "gulls" have so far gone to the amendment that, as we see, they will perform in the Premier League this season.

According to Spanish radio station Onda Cero (via the Manchester Evening News' Alex Porter), City are looking to strengthen their midfield following the sale of Fernando and have contacted Barca about potentially buying Busquets.

"I think they will be absolutely right up there". We are strong defensively and I predict 1-1.

Last season was the first time in his managerial career that he finished a campaign without having added at least one trophy to his collection.

"We spent", the coach said. "We need to show this attitude and commitment in all our games".

And now the Premier League have announced further changes for October and November, with the visit of United on October 14 among those.

What To Expect: Since winning entry to the top tier they've set about strengthening their squad with ten new players moving to the club, including Aaron Mooy, Tom Ince and Steve Mounie.

"There is still 20 days left and there will be more transfers", he told reporters ahead of City's season-opener at Brighton on Saturday. "He was the best player I ever saw".

But Ederson says he has been given plenty of freedom in his role and insists he doesn't feel any extra pressure from the transfer fee City paid.

"On top of that, he wants me to enjoy it".

Diame had to choose between Premier League football with Hull - and another season in the Championship with Newcastle United.

Tiemoue Bakayoko played a crucial role in Monaco's league title win semi-final appearance in the Champions League last season, and will hope to have a similar impact for Chelsea.

But with City running out of time to sign a fourth-choice centre-back to replace Aleksandar Kolarov, Mangala may yet earn a reprieve. A hard call to say who'll come out on top before the transfer window closes but, with rumblings of discontent at Stamford Bridge, I'll go for United, who look a little more solid defensively than their neighbours.
