SINGAPORE – JULY 25 Alvaro Morata

Champions Chelsea suffered a nightmare start to their Premier League title defence, having two men sent off as Burnley claimed a superb win at Stamford Bridge.

The post Burnley making Chelsea feel the blues appeared first on Vanguard News.

Conte led Chelsea to the title in his first season in English football and his win ratio of 79 per cent is the best of any manager in the history of the Premier League.

To the disgust of Conte, Burnley grabbed a third just before half time following a brilliant cross from deep by Defour as Vokes rose highest to head in.

The sending off of Blues captain Gary Cahill set the hosts spiralling out of control, as a Sam Vokes brace either side of a superbly struck Stephen Ward effort put Burnley 3-0 up at the break.

And Conte believes Ronald Koeman's men are well-placed to compete for honours in the coming campaign, despite losing former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United for £75million.

New signing Alvaro Morata was introduced with an hour on the clock as he replaced Michy Batshuayi in a tactical substitution.

As well as defender Terry and midfielder Matic, Chelsea have sold Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth, while last season's top scorer Diego Costa has been told he is free to leave.

Chelsea's hopes of a fightback were hit when Cesc Fabregas received a second yellow card, although David Luiz extended the hope with a late goal from Morata's flick. Chelsea's hierarchy are well aware of the current squad situation and the expectation is that three or four more players will arrive before the close of the transfer window.

"Go four at the back, three in midfield, two up front and have a go".

But they were ahead after 23 minutes when Palace failed to deal with an Aaron Mooy corner and the ball deflected in off Joel Ward - and with Palace rocking Mooy crossed again and Steve Mounie headed home.

NAN also reports that Wayne Rooney scored the winning goal on his top-flight return to Everton after 13 years.

"A lot was made of our away form last season, and don´t get me wrong, that doesn´t correct it".
