13 August 2017, 06:09 | Myron Mathis
The Volkswagen driver approaches the crossing seemingly unaware that the barriers have come down
A motorist and her three passengers are lucky to be alive after their auto ploughed through a railroad crossing barrier as a high-speed train approached.
She comes to a halt just just after the intersection before the train hit the back of the auto denting the boot and smashing a brake light. Other drivers stopped, stunned at what they had witnessed as the train continued racing towards the town centre.
The incident was captured by a security camera of the Polish state railway company, PKP, last month.
After the train passed the stunned occupants could be seen getting out of the auto to survey the damage. At the crossing between Skibnem and Koszalin, a driver carrying passengers drove onto the tracks despite having a properly functioning auto the closed barriers being closed. The back of the vehicle was clipped by the train, but none of the four passengers in the auto were hurt.
Police later issued the driver a $140 fine.
The footage shows a Volkswagen plowing through the barrier, appearing to be unaware of it.
