China Set To Intervene If US Launches Pre-Emptive Strike Against North Korea

13 August 2017, 02:58 | Melissa Porter

Could China's military be pulling the strings in Pyongyang?

North Korea Hwasong-14

It is estimated that over 150,000 people were killed over those three days.

The statement from Trump came after Pyongyang ridiculed his "fire and fury" remark by calling it a "load of nonsense".

"If war really breaks out, the United States can hardly reap any strategic harvest and North Korea will face unprecedented risks..."

The possibility of an unplanned clash around the US-South Korea joint military exercises on August 21 can not be ruled outTensions have been rising to an extreme degree around the Korean Peninsula as a result of North Korea and the US's war of inflammatory invectives. "There is an urgent reason to talk to Pyongyang now: to avoid a nuclear conflict on the Korean Peninsula", Hecker said in an interview with the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists on 7 August. "But many of us are still here and we're going to stay here".

President Donald Trump has repeatedly called for China to rein in North Korea. There are 11 million people on the Korean peninsula who will immediately suffer death and injury if our leaders do not allow for dialogue and compromise.

South Korea's National Red Cross suggests to its North Korean counterpart a joint campaign to locate separated family members in both parts of the Korean Peninsula. Just as Pope Francis said in his World Day of Peace message this past January, we know that "violence is not the cure for our broken world".

The Global Times said the exchange of words is such a "reckless game" that may result in dire consequences.

"It is crucial for Seoul to be more vocal about its current stance in the tug-of-war between Washington and Pyongyang ..."

Pavel Zolotarev, a retired Russian major general, told RT that decision making in Washington goes "beyond rational logic" and there are unforeseen consequences as both parties seem to be prepared for worst-case scenarios. "So, if the North Korean military talks of such plans, it means it actually has them".

"Though their equipment is far behind the American assets, their combat readiness and military morale are much higher."
On Aug. 10, Pyongyang's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Kim Rak-gyom, commander of the Korean People's Army Strategic Forces, had released a statement on Aug. 9 saying that the North was "seriously considering a plan to launch an enveloping strike on Guam involving the simultaneous launch of four Hwasung-12 intermediate-range strategic ballistic rockets".

The relationship between China and North Korea has become strained in the last several years. If South Korea and the United States mobilize strategic assets to carry out a show of force against North Korea during the exercises, some think, North Korea could respond in kind. Trump's predecessors have declared military attacks on other nations without congressional permission.
