The Walking Dead creator signs deal with Amazon

Kirkman is nearly alone among comics creators for having firmly established himself as as a showrunner with all of his Skybound projects.

Under the partnership agreement, Amazon will get a first look at new offerings from Robert Kirkman and the company he cofounded, Skybound Entertainment. In one fell swoop, it makes Amazon Prime Video the exclusive home for any new shows from the minds behind The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, and Cinemax's Outcast. " Meanwhile, Fear the Walking Dead continues to build its own respective audience by way of the season 3.5 trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic Con 2017 - and the latest word has Kirkman expanding his storytelling reach even further".

In a statement, Kirkman referenced Sharon Tal Yguado, Amazon's new head of event series, who focuses on genre work like sci-fi, action, fantasy and horror.

"At Skybound Entertainment we strive to tell the best stories in the most unique and creative ways in an effort to always break new ground", said Robert Kirkman. "Together, we plan to explore immersive worlds and bold ideas for Prime Video". Based on Kirkman's comic book series of the same name, The Walking Dead is TV's No. 1 scripted drama among the key advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and a billion-dollar franchise. Kirkman said he believes Amazon will be the flawless home for his future efforts. "Look out world, here we come!" In addition, Invincible is being developed at Universal with Seth Rogen/Evan Goldberg working on the superhero tale.

At this point, Kirkman's Skybound Entertainment properties contracted with AMC and other venues "will play out their current season-order contracts".

Prime Video: Thousands of movies and TV shows, including popular licensed content plus critically-acclaimed and award-winning Amazon Original Series and Movies from Amazon Studios like Transparent, The Man in the High Castle, Love & Friendship, and kids series Tumble Leaf, available for unlimited streaming as part of an Amazon Prime membership. Analysts have estimated that Prime members spend more than double what nonmembers spend on Amazon.com. This is standard procedure for most networks.

News of the Skybound/Amazon deal broke in The Hollywood Reporter this morning.

Tal Yguado, who joined Amazon in January, has a long history with Kirkman.
