OnePlus 3/3T wont get major OS updates after Android O

OnePlus Confirms Android O is Last Big Update for OP3/3T ...

OnePlus 3T

We think it's fair to say that OnePlus has a rocky reputation when it comes to software support of their older devices. With the company releasing the OnePlus 5 recently, it has led many to wonder how software will be supported on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T going forward.

While Android O will be the last major OS update for the OP3/3T, Oliver does promise that the devices will continue to receive updates for the "foreseeable future". He further revealed that the Android O update will be rolled out along with security patches and individual app updates as well for the near future. After the 3 and 3T get the O update, the Open Beta Program will be "moving" to the OnePlus 5. It's worth noting that OnePlus has been pushing continuous updates through the beta program to test the new features before pushing a public release.

While the Android O update is indeed good news for OnePlus 3/3T owners, the confirmed drought following that will discourage many, since the OnePlus 3 is just about 14 months old and the 3T is here for only 9 months.

On one hand, I understand that, the OnePlus 3/3T will have gotten two major software updates by the time Android O lands, a schedule that even Google adheres to with Nexus and Pixel phones. To do this, they brought in OnePlus' Head of Product, Oliver, as they'll be able to given official statements on the topics at hand. A month or two after these patches go live, the company will release Oxygen OS 4.5 to both the smartphones.

After the OnePlus 2's very lukewarm response, there was much rejoicing when the OnePlus 3, and later the OnePlus 3T, turned out to be a return to form for OnePlus.
