The United States government is issuing guidelines to the people of Guam in response to North Korea's threats this week that they are assessing a strike on the USA territory in the Pacific Ocean.

Calvo had the president on speaker phone, and posted a video of the exchange to his Facebook page.

Pyongyang said this week it is planning to launch four missiles into waters near the coast of Guam, which is a major United States military hub with a population of 163,000 - all of whom are technically USA citizens. The Governor responded that he has never felt so safe and is confident with him at the helm.

"We'll see how it all works out, but you're not going to have a problem and I just wanted to pay my respects and say you seem like a hell of a guy".

Before speaking to Mr Calvo, Mr Trump told reporters in New Jersey that he believed Guam would be "very safe" and threatened North Korea with "big, big trouble" if it launched an attack.

"You've become extremely famous".

They called me from the White House this morning and both assured me that the people of Guam are safe.

I take issue with your editorial that includes a description of "residents of Guam glancing nervously skyward" ("Alternative fact of the Week: Trump's nuclear arsenal", August 10). "They should have had me eight years ago".

Guam's Homeland Security Department on Friday released this pamphlet: "In Case of Emergency - Preparing for an Imminent Missile Threat". So you just take care of yourself. "So I'm just so thankful, and I'm glad you're holding the helm, sir". "In time you will be able to leave a fallout shelter", the sheet notes, adding that people should "not look at the flash or fireball - it can blind you".

"It just looks like a handsome place", Mr Trump said.

Trump responded by vowing to rain down "fire and fury" if challenged.

The president called the U.S. military "incredible, "rock solid" and "the best in the world by a factor of five".

Tension in the region has risen since North Korea carried out two nuclear bomb tests past year and two intercontinental ballistic missile tests in July.

Guam residents found themselves practicing air-raid drills in early 2013 after a previous round of threats, in which North Korea specifically named Andersen Air Force Base as a target.
