Microsoft teases 'fundamental change' to Xbox Achievements

Microsoft's Mike Ybarra, speaking with Windows Central, said the current Achievement system caters to those who play a lot of games - after all, there are a total of 1,000 Gamerscore to be earned from most titles. Xbox also warns Delta ring members that while everyone will eventually get the update before those in Omega, or before the pubic for that matter, not everyone will get it at the same time. As such, Xbox Achievements will likely be getting revamped in a way that "fundamentally changes the concept" of the system.

You can check out the entire 90-minute interview here. For those in the Delta ring, some will be selected (randomly it seems) to receive earlier builds than others. Users in the Omega group can expect anywhere from one to eight updates per month, which will collectively take up 4-32GB of bandwidth.

While it's only speculation, it's possible we may see these new changes implemented with the upcoming Xbox One X, expected to be released this holiday.

Xbox Insider Update and Data Consumption Chart

As detailed in a post on the Xbox Insider forums, the refresh gives consistently active Xbox Insiders the chance to experience the latest updates, while revoking access to those no longer active. If you are concerned about the number of updates or bandwidth issues, you can move to one of the lower levels. What's more, those who own multiple consoles can enroll those consoles individually into any of the Insider rings for which they're eligible using the same gamertag across each.
