Late rocker Cornell to get a statue in Seattle

Seattle attorney and family friend Mark Johnson is working with the city to find a location, but Vicky is open to suggestions.

Vicky Cornell spoke to The Seattle Times about the process of both mourning her husband Chris Cornell, who passed away in May, as well as finding ways to celebrate his rich legacy.

Chris Cornell's family want to immortalize him in more than just song. "He has already given me a design and the children and I love it", Cornell told the Times, adding that they estimate the statue will take around seven months to build.

It has yet to be determined where the statue will be placed, but it will certainly be in Seattle, where the rocker was born and became and influential part of the city's grunge scene.

"My vow is to keep his promise, and what better way to honor Chris and his hometown than by creating a music program to help these babies heal". He has previously been responsible for a memorial of Johnny Ramone at his grave in Hollywood.

Cornell has also pledged $100,000 towards the Chris Cornell Music Therapy Program, which is part of Seattle's Childhaven charity, helping children who are abused and neglected.

Cornell's body was found May 18 inside a Detroit hotel room while on tour with Soundgarden, and a coroner subsequently ruled his death the result of suicide by hanging.

The Seattle Times interviewed the singer's widow, Vicky Cornell, and the story was online Thursday.
