The Third Nintendo World Championships Will Be Held In October

Qualifiers begin on August 19 at eight Best Buy stores around the United States: New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Dallas, Seattle, and Miami. From there, Nintendo has implemented two age brackets for players looking to qualify for the Nintendo World Championships 2017. Those lucky enough to be in attendance will be able to get their hands on Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Pokken Tournament DX for the Nintendo Switch, as well as the 3DS games Monster Hunter Stories and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. Likewise, the Standard Kart, Standard Wheels, and Super Glider will be used for the game as well. Those aged 13 and above will race on Bowser Castle 1 as Bowser with the identical cart configurations.

The second Nintendo game getting a special gamescom livestream presentation is Metroid: Samus Returns for the Nintendo 3DS. We'll also get another look at Metroid: Samus Returns, a remake coming to the 3DS on September 15.

It looks like Nintendo intends to make its World Championships event a regular affair, having previously hosted just two - one in 1990 and another for the 25th anniversary in 2015.

The games included on the cartridge were also played in the event where participants fought against each other to log the best score from the games "Super Mario Bros.", "Rad Racer", and "Tetris".

Probably the rarest and the most valuable cartridges released for the NES gaming console, the Nintendo World Championships cartridge is coveted by collectors and game fans alike.

Following Nintendo's impressive showing at this year's E3, the house of Mario is planning on bringing some of its most-anticipated titles back for another round at Gamescom 2017.
