Udta Punjab wins big at IIFA awards

Amit Mishra bagged Best Playback Singer (Male) award for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil while Kanika Kapoor Tulsi Kumar jointly won the Best Playback Singer (Female) award for Udta Punjab and Airlift respectively.

Sonam Kapoor's film Neerja won the Best Film award.

It was a big night for the Bollywood superstars as the 18th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards were held in the lovely city of NY. The lead actress in the film, Taapsee Pannu, was chosen to be the Woman of The Year and AR Rahman was honored with the Special Contribution to Indian Cinema award.

Moreover, congratulations are due for Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury after winning the Best Direction Award at the 2017 IIFA.

Meanwhile, Shakun Batra and Ayesha Devitre Dhillon walked away with the award for Best Story.

As hosts, Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan attempted to keep the humor alive, but beyond a point, the crowd wasn't very engaged and booed them in between.


Katrina Kaif gave away the award to Shahid at the ceremony in NY, while Varun Dhawan announced Alia as the Best Actor - Female at the event, held at the Metlife Stadium.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil dominated the music categories.

Udta Punjab, directed by Abhishek Chaubey, revolves around the drug abuse by youth in the state of Punjab and the various conspiracies surrounding it.

Varun Dhawan's performance in Dishoom earned him the title of Best Actor in a Comic Role.

Diljit Dosanjh also won the best debut actor male for the same film, as Disha Patani picked best female debutant for "MS Dhoni: The Untold Story".
