WhatsApp to Introduce In App Youtube Playback for Videos Soon

WhatsApp Whats App iOS update Whats App iOS file sharing Whats App share any file Whats App pinned chats Whats App forward

The update bumps the app's version 2.17.40 and adds features like pinned chats, ability to share all file types and more. As of now, the WhatsApp feature is available for iOS devices only and there is no information on when it will be available to the public on both iOS and Android smartphones. Let's have a look at these feature one by one. To pin the chat, users have to swipe right the chat contact ribbon. Notably, users can only pin up to maximum three chats. It is now rolling out to iOS.

The WhatsApp team is now testing internally a new In App Youtube Playback function which allows users to play videos of Youtube shared links within the application. This will save time of clicking the link and then directing to YouTube. But, with the latest update, this Facebook owned messaging platform is secretly testing the in-app playback.

In the same way, it's not possible to use the Picture in Picture WhatsApp mode on your Springboard, seen that this feature is available since iOS 9 for iPad only: probably, if a new API will be available in next iOS versions that will allow to use the Picture in Picture mode on your Springboard also for iPhone, WhatsApp will surely support it.

This feature is still under development, and actually it's not possible yet to keep active the video if you change the chat: in that case the Picture in Picture mode will disappear, unfortunately. WhatsApp is now fixing your problem by integrating in-app playback support for YouTube videos. The feature is supported on all versions of the iPhone above iPhone 6, but not iPhone 5, likely due to the smaller screen, and it is not clear if the feature will also be coming to Windows Phone and Android. This feature was announced only last week for Android and now is available to iPhone users. Stay tuned for more info.
