Samsung's mobile payment service “Samsung Pay” will partner with PayPal
Today, we took another step to bring PayPal to more customers by expanding our partnership with Samsung to enable PayPal as a payment method in Samsung Pay wherever Samsung Pay is accepted -in-store, online, and in-app.
As part of the tie-up, MobiKwik wallet is now integrated with Samsung Pay Mini to enable one-tap payments at more than 1.4 million MobiKwik-powered merchants across the country, the digital payments firm said in a statement.
Samsung said it would begin the Samsung Pay service using PayPal first in the U.S. before gradually expanding it to other global markets.
PayPal was a close second with 34 percent acceptance, followed by MasterCard PayPass (25%), Android Pay (24%), Visa Checkout (20%), Samsung Pay (18%), Chase Pay (11%) and private label mobile wallets with 4%.
Coming soon, consumers in the USA will be able to use PayPal within Samsung Pay at millions of retailers.
Samsung Pay, the mobile payments service of the world's largest handset maker, was launched in India in March this year. Since Samsung's mobile payments service has MST and NFC support, it can work with nearly all card terminals in supported markets. All you need to do is sign in with PayPal in the app, and you can make payments directly from your PayPal wallet. PayPal support will be rolled out to other markets later. Today, it's adding something that isn't a card-PayPal accounts. For instance, PayPal and Samsung worked together on mobile payments back in 2014, and was added as a payment method in Samsung smart TVs the following year.
