After holding back the streaming stats for his latest album 4:44 last week, yesterday it was revealed that Jay's most recent album, the already-platinum record hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts.

Jay was pretty close to sales predictions. Now widely available across physical and digital platforms-minus Spotify-the album moved 262,000 equivalent album units, of which 174,000 were traditional album sales, during the tracking week ending on July 13. Since being released from its Tidal exclusivity though it's stormed up the charts. The free downloads were ineligible to chart. This past week was a different story. "The debut falls just behind Kendrick Lamar's "DAMN.", Drake's "More Life" and Ed Sheeran's "÷ (Divide)". Ever since Vol. 2.Hard Knock Life which came out in 1998, every one of Hov's solo efforts have reached the top spot.

The album, Jay-Z's first in four years, won favorable reviews and marked growing introspection from the 47-year-old rapper.

Jay-Z released the album on June 30 as an exclusive on his Tidal streaming service, which is partly owned by telecom operator Sprint. Hov will have a couple of months to kick it with the twins before he takes off in late October for the tour that will run up until December 21.
