Shikhar Dhawan replaces Murali Vijay for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka

Dhawan, who played his last Test in October against New Zealand, has been in top form of late and ended the ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales as the leading run-getter. Vijay has been ruled out due to a wrist injury suffered during the four-match Test series against Australia.

Having missed the IPL to undergo shoulder surgery to be fit for the Test series against Sri Lanka, Murali Vijay will be utterly disappointed to have missed out on the upcoming three-match series that begins on July 26.

Dhawan, who is a regular in the Indian ODI side, has played 23 Tests and averages 38.52.

Vijay has complained of pain in his wrist while playing a preparatory match. The BCCI medical team has subsequently advised Vijay to continue his rehabilitation program. Dhawan started the tournament with scores of 68,125,78 as India entered the final but lost to eventual champions Pakistan by 180 runs. The will be India's first full series in eight years in Sri Lanka, involving all three formats of the game. The teams will lock horns in two more Tests followed by five ODIs and one-off T20I.
