"Team CEO Tad Brown made the announcement Tuesday (AEDT) that the team is for sale, saying owner Leslie Alexander wants to "(change) the fabric of his life".

According to Brown, Alexander will only sell the team to someone that keeps the organization in Houston. According to a Forbes estimate, the Rockets are now worth roughly $1.65 billion United States dollars.

The Rockets recently gave star guard James Harden the largest contract in National Basketball Association history, a four-year extension that brings the deal to a reported $228 million. "The great players, Hall of Fame players and coaches, championships won, all-NBA teams made".

"It's been my great joy and honor to own the Houston Rockets for the past 24 years", Alexander, 74, said in a statement released by the team. "I think (Alexander) had a real good conversation with his family and close, close friends", Brown said. "And the Houston community has been home to me".

Brown said Alexander has been approached many times in the past about selling the team. The NBA took action after Sterling was famously recorded discussing his disdain for his then mistress relationships with African American players.

Any group looking at the Rockets is acquiring them at an ideal time.

The Rockets are poised to be a team's top-three team next season, and they have a superstar (and MVP runner) locked up until 2023 after James Harden recently inked a new contract extension with the team.
