The Butkus Award, named after legendary linebacker Dick Butkus, is an annual college football award given to the nation's best linebacker by The Butkus Foundation. He started 11 times and appeared in all 13 games. He added 125 yards through the air on 17 receptions and averaged 22.3 yards per kickoff return. He averaged 11.3 yards per punt on 19 returns, and totaled 215 return yards with one return touchdown.
Kerryon Johnson is on the Paul Hornung Award's preseason watch list, for the award given to college football's most versatile player as voted on by the Louisville Sports Commission and award namesake Paul Hornung. "I love the fact that we recognize players who have the skill and the right mind set to play anyplace on the field to help their team win games". In 25 career games (seven starts), Johnson has accumulated 2,078 all-purpose yards with 1,103 on the ground.
