Gatwick Airport says an Air Canada flight to Toronto had to return to Gatwick after experiencing the burst tyre.

It returned to Gatwick just under an hour later, triggering disruption to operations. Emergency services were standing by.

In a statement on its Facebook page, Jersey Airport said: 'Gatwick Airport apologies for the inconvenience but warns that there are likely to be further delays and cancellations for the remainder of the day.


Several flights were diverted from Gatwick while ground crews removed the plane from the runway and towed it back to the airport.

"We are now working to get our passengers on their way as quickly as possible".

Gatwick Airport has closed its main runway after an Air Canada aircraft burst a tyre on take-off.

"Passengers should check with their airline before travelling to the airport for information about their specific flight".
