After complaints from hospitals about adulteration in blood bags procured from Hyderabad blood banks, and reports of proliferation of food adulteration in the city, Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, at a high-level meeting at Pragathi Bhavan here Sunday, told officials that every possible step should be taken to tackle the problems. Drug trafficking and sale of adulterated products is spoiling the image of the state capital.

According to sources, during the meeting, Akun Sabharwal gave details on the progress of the ongoing investigation involving Tollywood celebrities in the drug case.

The Chief Minister said his government is giving complete freedom to the officials on this issue.

CM also said that it was he who asked DG (Enforcement) Excise Akun Sabharwal to not to go on his pre-scheduled leave as the case his department is investigating is sensitive and important. Many schools and colleges have been issued notices on this and the investigation is on now.

"There is no place for any violation of law, arrest the guilty even if they are famous".

"There won't be any political interference in the case and this government has no need to protect anyone".

SIT officials said they would question these film personalities and would also try to find out if they were merely using drugs or were also involved in peddling. Even if there is a Cabinet minister don't spare him/her. While pointing out that drugs were being used in the city for a long time, he said: "This has to be wiped out completely".

CM also asked government's Chief Advisor and former chief secretary of the state, Rajiv Sharma to take care of strengthening the excise department and to insure that stringent action against the accused of drugs, Illicit liquor and cannabis cases. "Change Hyderabad into a drug-free city", he said. Mr. Rao made it clear that he had asked senior official Akun Sabharwal, who was investigating the case, not to proceed on leave.

"56 teams are working on the spurious seeds' issue and 14 teams on adulteration of food items".

"Adulteration of food is equal to poisoning".

The DGP informed the chief minister on the measures undertaken to control adulteration of food items and spurious seeds.

Stating that the supply of drugs, adulteration of food items and spurious seeds are organised crimes, Rao asked officials to create a special wing for monitoring such illegal activities. "File cases and punish those offering bribes as well as those accepting it", he added.
