Coast Guard rescues mother, daughter from rip tide at NC beach

5 People Saved From Cape Cod Boat Fire

The Coast Guard rescued a mother and her ten-year-old daughter caught in rip tides near Baldhead Beach and Oak Island Saturday.

At about 5:30 p.m. the Coast Guard said it received a distress call about the two missing people, who were not immediately identified.

Four boaters were rescued Sunday afternoon from a 19-foot pleasure craft after it took on water in the Snakehill Channel in Islip near Captree State Park, the Coast Guard said.

During early efforts to rescue the pair, a small watercraft overturned in six-foot swells, sending the mom, daughter, and a rescuer into risky waters, the Coast Guard reported.

They were brought by the Coast Guard back to Woods Hole in Falmouth, Massachusetts, where family was waiting for them. All three people were thrown into the water. The daughter was placed on the rescuer's personal watercraft while the mother was towed behind it on a rescue sled. The boat made it back to the Bald Head Island Marina around 6 p.m.
