Toy Story 4 Sets Josh Cooley As Solo Director

16 July 2017, 02:19 | Melissa Porter

When Friday's Pixar and Disney Animation panel at D23 kicked off, it opened with a sizzle reel containing extremely short clips from some upcoming films, and few glimpses got a bigger reaction than the title card forThe Incredibles 2.

Due this fall, Coco is the most imminent of Pixar's current films, but Lasseter also took time to reveal the opposite as well: a new, as yet untitled project in early development with an interesting hook. It's a ideal ending for a near-perfect superhero movie: the promise of more adventure for the super-powered and united Parr family, even if we don't get to see it.

"I'm so excited about our upcoming movies; they are all hilarious, emotional, lovely and make you think", said Lasseter. "We were fortunate to have Kristen and Bobby create "Remember Me" - it's the signature song made famous by Ernesto de la Cruz, and it embodies the key theme in our story: the importance of remembering loved ones in both life and beyond".

The Incredibles 2 is set to land in cinemas on June 15th, 2018.

While Toy Story 4 will be the first feature film that Cooley has ever directed, the filmmaker is a Pixar veteran in his own right, after voicing roles in multiple films and shorts over the years like Up and Toy Story of Terror.

"'Incredibles 2' is really a family film, it's just that the family happens to have super powers", Bird said.

The brainchild of Monsters University director Dan Scanlan, the film takes place in a world of "suburban fantasy". Lasseter revealed to guests that the filmmakers had asked the original voices of the princesses to return to their roles for a sequence that no Disney fan could forget.

However, it looks like The Incredibles 2 will finally let us see exactly what goes down between the heroic family and the villainous Underminer.

"It starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on", Lasseter told IGN at this year's D23 Expo.
